From Prison to Pro - Bridging the Digital Divide

From Prison to Pro: Bridging the Digital Divide is a Nation Outside digital literacy program designed to help returning citizens build the technology skills needed to successfully navigate life after incarceration.

For many people returning home, technology can feel unfamiliar, overwhelming, or inaccessible. This program helps close that gap by providing hands-on computer and digital skills training in Detroit, Flint, Ypsilanti, and Ann Arbor. Through practical instruction and supportive learning, participants gain tools that strengthen reentry, increase independence, and support long-term stability.

The program focuses on helping participants build confidence using computers, mobile devices, the internet, email, online forms, digital communication tools, and other everyday technology. Training also supports online safety, critical thinking, responsible digital citizenship, content creation, financial literacy, employment readiness, and advanced computer skills.

By increasing digital access and confidence, From Prison to Pro helps participants connect to essential resources, healthcare, employment opportunities, education, benefits, and community support. The program also supports broader reentry goals, including improved health access, successful reintegration, reduced systemic costs, and fewer technical probation or parole violations.
